I've decided that I want to blog again. It's been too long since I've been consistent with blogging, and each week it seems to get harder to blog since I'm so far behind. But, as I was reminded tonight (thanks Mom!) there are people out there I DO want to keep in touch with and blogging is a great way to do it! So...I'm going to officially start my weekly blog with just quick highlights from our week. I'll mostly post about things that stand out from the week. Maybe someday I'll get back to blogging more often, but at least this way I won't get so far behind that I feel like I don't know where to begin, and then put it off again...
So, without more stream-of-consciousness, I'll just share with all y'all our week:
- Eliza started physical therapy on her feet. We're trying to overcome some flat foot issues that have impacted her walking/running. She has exercises to do each night that we have NOT been good at adding to our routine. The insoles have done wonders though, so tomorrow when we go for a follow-up, we'll at least be able to show improvement from the use of them!
- I went to my first Neurologist appointment. After a VERY thorough evaluation, including quite a variety of physical tests, he also believes that I have basilar migraines. It was a relief to have this conclusion reached by both my primary doctor and now the specialist. So, I'll be on my preventative medicine for 6 months and then I'll try to go off of it. Meanwhile, I've started getting migraines after I've done exerting cardio exercises, so I'm going to back off on those for the coming weeks.
- CENTERGY!! I love this class at the gym. My favorite days of the week are the ones I get to go and workout with this tai chi/pilates/yoga combo class. For Mother's Day today James and the kids gave me much needed yoga pants, socks and head bands for the gym. After only a month and a half, I feel stronger than I have in YEARS. I wish I'd taken Britta's advice and started this WAY sooner. LOVE IT!
- Eliza, James and I went to our community production of The Sound of Music. Eliza was in awe of it all. This was her first live performance (besides the Nutcracker, which she says doesn't count...not sure why??). It helped to have her 3rd grade teacher (the one that reminds me of Janyse) performing as Frau Schmidt (the maid of Captain Van Trapp, for those of you familiar). We had a great time!
- Soccer (Rachel) and Flag football (Seth) were cancelled due to rain. Hmmm...I realize how behind I am, since this is my first mention of football. Well, Seth absolutely LOVES to see how plays unfold. He printed off the playbook his coach sent us and began the season just POURING over these drawings. You guessed it...very exciting for James!! The rest of us have enjoyed playing center, quarterback and receiver out in the yard as we help him get extra practice in.

Sorry about the genetic code for flat feet, Eliza. If it helps you feel any better, I have them too, and so does your great grandpa Grimshaw! Congratulations to you all on all your wonderful activities--what a lot of fun.
Happy Mother's Day, Valerie.
That's way exciting Val! It sounds like the kids are up to a lot of fun. I love The Sound of Music, that was one of my favorite musicals that I saw at 5th Avenue. Thanks for blogging, I love to hear what's going on with everyone, since I don't get to talk to you all very much! Love you all!
i'd love to see a pic of the head bands...
good to hear from the petersons in virginia again!
What fun to read your updates!
That's so interesting that Eliza doesn't consider the Nutcracker an "official" live performance. :) Maybe because it's strictly dance, and she's categorized performance more in the 'drama' arena? Too funny.
Yea for coming to a conclusion on your headaches! I'm so happy to hear that. I will continue to pray those go better. I've been thinking about you so often!
That exercise class sounds amazing. I'm basically tredmilling it these days (am up to doing 5 miles on an average day and 7 to 8 on 'good' days). Yup - not anywhere near marathon capabilities (yet) but maybe with slow persistence the exercise induced asthma will continue to improve and I can actually get up to the higher runs. However, the class you mention may be the ticket to helping one gain actual strength (which running really does not do)! I will have to look into that!
This is much longer than expected, so I better close, but it's so, so good to hear from you!
I'm glad to see that you are on top of things in the flat feet catagory--not good for sports; causes much pain!(I think they are much more common than one knows.)
I'd love to see seth in his fb gear...or maybe they just play touch.
Do you take Carrie to the gym with you? i have had the hardest time getting into a good work out routine since Calvin was born.
Yes, I am lucky enough to be able to bring the kiddos with me to the gym. It's free childcare. What more incentive do I need to work out?? And all of the classes are free too. I love this place.
Mom, don't worry about the flat feet. We were cursed from both sides of the families, though neither James or I really have too flat of feet. And...I was a little misleading. After seeing the physical therapist, she sees arches, but just long feet that collapse in the arches. So, she's just supposed to do strengthening exercises. They're really kind of fun for her!
