seeing spots

Okay. So here's the scoop. Caroline had the chicken pox a little over a month ago. This was her 2nd time with them. There were only 10 pox on her back. She's had a stomach bug (vomiting, diarrhea, fever) for the last week and is finally now eating and keeping food down.

Then on Tuesday, I started to notice the familiar spots AGAIN!!! This time they are everywhere! On the scalp, in the ear, on the neck, cheeks, legs, tummy, wrist, thigh. You name it...spots!

After a quick trip to the doctor today, he says that she is most likely experiencing a bit of a relapse. Her second case was so mild that the virus could have laid dormant and then the recent illness could have triggered the relapse.

WHAT?!? Do you buy this?

I'm starting to worry we have an immune system deficiency here...but when I asked, he said it's not a concern unless she's had major other infections that are inexplainable.

That's a TOTAL BUMMER! Chicken Pox once is bad enough, but if I read this correctly, Carrie is going onto her THIRD episode!! That is rude beyond all rudeness. Hope she does OK and Mommy too. Love you all!

did she have a fever with it?
jill gets a rash in the last few days, every time she gets a bug. are you sure each time was the pox?
i wouldn't take the dr.'s answer as gospel just yet.

Okay...? So, maybe it's not to late to give her the chicken pox shot? Or would that have any effect whatsoever if she's catching them multiple times?

To get chicken pox multiple times isn't as uncommon as I thought before this past year, when I myself caught them for a second time.

But honestly...if she isn't getting them bad enough that they trigger an immunity, then I say 'go for the shot'!

jeff had mono several years ago, and that is EXACTLY how the EB virus works. It lays dormant in you until your body is weak, so the chicken pox virus may be similar.

Sick kids are the pits.

Alisha, she did have a fever (100-101) with these spots...

Joanne...that exactly what I thought. Last time when she had only 10 spots I asked the doctor to just giver her the vaccine. Then he talked me into having her blood drawn (the WORST thing for a child) and tested to see if she had the proper antibodies. Her blood came back that she does, and so the shot apparently would do her no good.

And, Nettie...sick kids ARE the pits. Mostly I'm sad that I miss my pilates class. I've had a mild migraine this week and I think it's because I've missed my class so much over the past weeks. BIG BUMMER.

I thought it was really rare for anyone to get them a second let alone third time. The Chicken Pox was going around the school a couple months ago and about a dozen kids were sick. The school sent a letter home asking kids to get immunized and/or get boosters. I asked the nurse about it and she said half the kids who got it had been immunized and two of the kids were on their second round, they had both had the Chicken Pox the month before. (I thought she was exaggerating, maybe not).

Sorry you have to go through it again, hope you both start feeling better.
