Okay, okay...I've been feeling a bit guilty that I've been unable to blog! After seeing Brett's poll on whether the blog trend will last, I've decided to kick mine up a notch. Really, life has just finally slowed down for us for me to catch my breath and reflect.
School got out last Wednesday, so Eliza and I flew off that afternoon to visit friends in Colorado. Well...I should say we flew out there and were able to spend 2 days and visit only a handful of the people we wish we could've seen. (Sorry if we missed you!)
We had a great visit. It's so fun to laugh with friends so hard that you cry! It was great to actually view mountains (I've started to forget that they're so big). I love the simplicity of the Denver airport...I felt so at home there. What surprised me is how I felt leaving...
I felt like Denver will always hold a VERY special place in my heart, but that I didn't belong there anymore. While there it felt like I had never left, but when we got back into Baltimore, the huge trees and yes, even humidity, welcomed me back "home". I didn't expect to feel that way after only living here for 10 months. I realized that I can keep very dear friendships with those living many, many miles away, but that I feel most at home with James and the family that we've created. (I did miss Seth and Rachel...and James a ton and found myself CONSTANTLY talking about them during the visit. It's funny that when you leave to take a break, your thoughts are always with those you've left.)
Anyway, I guess this means Virginia is my home for now. Even as I raced into town late on Saturday night (I'd forgotten one ingredient for our Father's Day Veal Parmesan) the little shops and people with familiar twang put me at peace.
If you ever get the chance to make a big move and experience a totally new culture...do it. It's amazing that even in less than a year I can see how my life has been enriched.

I'm glad you had a great time. Sorry I was not available to catch up with you by phone yesterday. I'll call today sometime.
Home is ALWAYS where your family is. I'm more than ready to return to MINE. 3 more days at BYU and then it's home to Redmond!
Love, Mom
Jeff and I were just talking about that the other day...it is family that makes your home.
Did Eliza have a good time?
I'm glad to see that a few of us are trying to keep the blogging going! I think its kind of fun
Eliza did have a good time, except that she stayed up until nearly 3 am ET the first night and then started coming down with a cold. On Friday she just woke up and was a bear! She and I took a little break that day away from the rest of the group and it was SO good for her.
