ruminate: to turn a matter over and over in the mind.
This is my new favorite word. I like it almost as much as the word validate. Right now I'm reading a book called Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman. It's probably the most scholarly book I've picked up in the last 5 years. What I like about it (besides its use of REAL studies to document its findings) is that it has really opened my eyes to see how often I let negative thoughts spool in my head. So, I'm trying really hard to catch those defeating thoughts right when they start and put a stop to them. It's really empowering...
I have not felt so happy and light in a long time. I can't credit this all to Dr. Seligman. Having only Caroline home with me from 8am to 4pm is such a joy. My burdens feel light!

Sounds like you are using your time wisely--gaining all that wisdom. I do like that word ruminate! Have you figured out a working schedule for the two of you? What a wonderful thing is the start of a new era in your life. Love you all!
I like the word ruminate, too! Another (rather silly) word I like is defenestrate. It means to throw out the window. :)
Sounds like a great book Valerie - I'll have to pick that one up. I like that word 'ruminate' too, what a concept that I hadn't considered before. The power of Mind-over-Matter is a huge one.
I've thought of you a lot lately as we've headed into Fall, knowing how much you like the season as much as me! Kindred spirit!
Love you!
the power of positive thinking. I tend to be more negative without realizing it, and it really bothers me when I catch myself being so negative. I think I'm going to read that book when I get some more free time.
this is coming from a dairyman's daughter, but the word ruminate reminds me of cows and chewing their cud...sorry I hope i don't ruin this word for you. :)
lol, Nettie. It does also mean that. I like the word even more now. ;)
