School started on Monday.
You'd think after five years of doing this, I would find it easier to send them off...
When we got to school, I made sure that Eliza and Seth were off to their classrooms and then waited as they herded the kindergartners off to their wing in the school. With one last "I love you" and wave to Rachel, she entered the building. I found myself lingering at the school, talking to other parents and avoiding the inevitable. After several minutes it dawned on me that I didn't know what I was waiting for. It was time to head home with Caroline.
Oh how I would've loved to stay and watch their school assembly and experience with them the first day of this new adventure. I would've loved to tour the school and discover the new playground and surroundings. I would've loved to sit with each of them at lunch and make sure they had someone to talk with who cared. I would've loved to go out to recess with them and be the kind of friend they need.
Oh how hard it is to entrust your children to others. I keep a hope that this year their teachers and peers will be there for them the way that I wish I could.

Good Luck to all your kids starting school. And good luck to you, Val. What will you do with yourself when they ALL go to school? At least you can still mother Caroline during the day... for now.

I am not sure it will ever get easier for you! Sorry to burst your bubble. With each new level of letting go, you face new cracks in your heart. But it's part of the growing up process, so GET USED TO IT!! They are darling kids, and you have every right to resist the departures.

I bet Rachel was so excited to go to school with the big kids... they all look excited. I think that has always made it a tiny bit easier for me... my kids are always excited to go back and see their friends and teachers.

Oh Val, my eyes are just filling with tears at your pain! I can't imagine what it's like to have to leave your children in the care of others. They do look like quite the happy and excited bunch though! I'm sure this year will be fabulous for all of them.
Carrie is getting so big! Look at all her hair! I don't think I've seen a recent picture of her - she's sooooo cute Val!
